What the USDA report measures
The report tracks commercial mushroom production and sales in California, Maryland, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas. Specialty mushroom estimates cover growers with at least 200 natural wood logs in production or some commercial indoor growing area, plus at least $200 in sales.
Reported prices are grower prices at the first sale, not grocery-store prices. USDA notes that totals may not add exactly because figures are rounded and certain state figures are withheld to avoid identifying individual operations.
